Recommended Posts

Not to sure how receptive many of you will be here but figured I would give this a shot. Steve Albano, also a member here discusses Mole & Gopher control.

Hosted by: Robb Russell

Title: Steve Albano On Moles & Gophers

Time: 04/13/2008 07:37 PM EDT

Episode Notes: A full evening with Steve Albano, of Peninsula Animal Trapping PO Box 4128 Menlo Park, CA 94025 (650) 363-7963 stevealbano@thegophinator.com

Learn all about his wildlife control business and his products he has to offer the industry. After more than 14 years of operating a gopher and mole control service business using the marginally effective traps available on the market, Steve threw them all away in frustration, and designed The Gophinator.

Recently Steve also released a new mole trap and sent out sample to various professionals throughout the industry to filed test them. Steve will be handling calls tonight on both his new mole trap and using The Gophinator in his business.

This is about two hours long and offers a Yank perspective to trapping them burrowing critters. Next week we will feature a special called Ron Jones" The Squirrel man returns.

That does sound interesting - I'll have a listen in a bit.

I make EDT 5 hours behind UK BST so if we wanted to listen in live to future episodes to be able to phone in that would be around 12.30 am on Monday mornings ?

Thanks for posting this

Glad to see you have interste in our podccasts.

The call once connected to talkshoe.com has no other fees associated with the call. My partner and I, Mike Flick would be interested in setting up a Special TalkCast for those of you who want to share verbally with others. I know for a fact many of us here in the USA are interested in your many approaches to handling nuisance wildlife calls. Name the date and time and I will set up the call and have a host as part of the call.

Anyone can register as a guest at http://www.thewildlifepro.com and in the left most column is a form to fill out. So if your reading this don't be bashful lets set up a Hunting Life Call at a time convenient to all of you in the UK & Europe. :victory:

I am including a video on how to set up the Albano Mole Trap.

Looks like that trap will catch the BACK END of the mole

Oh Really!! The trap is actually designed to deliver a lethal hold in the chest area. Here is a complete thread on this new design. Read this thread and you will see it is not designed to catch the back end of a mole, nor does it catch them in the back end.

Dead is Dead. LOL :big_boss:

Thanks, Robb, I was just going to post that very picture when I saw you beat me to it.

Bry, that little torsion spring on the back of the trap is more powerful than it looks. Also the trap brings the mole in very close to a pivot point at the front end of the trap, and thus applies a lot of pressure on it. I'm not sure yet if the trap is the right size for the European Mole, but it provides a very consistent lethal catch on our mole here in California.

that wont catch on over here  you need to set two traps end to end to cover a tunnel as they will only fire from one direction  twice as much work where a duffus one trap covers both options ifeel the english molers will stick with there tried and test methods sissor, talpex duffus ect, still a good inovative idea you had :notworthy: but cant see the point of using two traps when one will suffice

ok i see the pics and it doesn't catch the back end, but as woodga says the thing that lets it down is the trap is only a 1 directionable trap.

Most of the mole traps we use over here in the UK can catch a mole going either way up the tube. unless you can get the run where moley is coming out or going back, then you will have it back filled by our moles.

Looks a handy little trap thou

That's a valid point to a degree. Yes, you do have to set two of my traps per set, but you can also catch two moles per set, which you obviously also can do with a Duffus, but not with a scissors trap or a talpex.

One other disadvantage of my trap is that because it goes inside the tunnel, the jaw spread compared to the size of the tunnel is very important. If the jaw spread is right for the size of the tunnel, catch rates will be very high, nearing 100%, but if set for a larger species of mole with larger tunnels, they'll tend to dig around the trap. And I'm not sure how the size of your European mole compares to what we have here.

One other advantage of my trap is that being so small, it can easily be set in mole tunnels in situations where the mole is tunneling below obstacles that can make it difficult to set other traps.

i agree about only one mole at a time being caught, but with the talpex or sissor type trap only one mole may be taken but here,s the difference it can be caught from any direction it comes from where as your restricted to one way only unless you use two traps and that is a deffinately a thing you need to improve one trap for both ways
